DEAF DIALOGUE

Graphic Art, Personal project

PERSONAL PROJECT

Work based on one of the dialogues of the movie A Fish named Wanda between Archie and his wife Wendy. This scene is particularly relevant to demonstrate how some people are speaking without listening to each other, giving the impression of two simultaneous monologues.

Book – mixed media – 110 x 220 mm

Dialogues and images from the movie A Fish Called Wanda, directed by Charles Crichton and written by Crichton and John Cleese, 1988.

A typography is assigned to each character and the dialogs are placed depending on the movie scene, enlarged or reduced in accordance with the space that the characters are taking in the frame. Text is here replacing the actor’s dialog.

Inside every page lays the print of the movie scene which concurs with the page dialog.

Each sentence has first been printed then placed behind different containers filled with water in order to subject them to distortion, photographed then re-drawn in order to meet the movie title and also because it is not possible to communicate verbally under water.
